New Lawrence A. Mysak Prize for Woodwinds

When he retired in 2010, Lawrence Mysak, Professor Emeritus in 捆绑SM社区鈥檚 Department of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, capped an illustrious and award-winning career in science and mathematics. But his research and teaching career ran parallel to another passion. Mysak is also an active musician, and has played the flute for over two decades as a member of the I Medici di 捆绑SM社区 Orchestra. Review: Ensemble Signal Returns to Winter With 鈥楽chnee鈥

Master's Student Benjamin Deschamps receives Conseil des Arts de Montr茅al award

Benjamin Deschamps, a Schulich School of Music Master's student has been awarded the 'Bourse de Cr茅ation Jazz' by the Conseil des Arts de Montr茅al (CAM). 聽The $5,000 award will be used to help fund聽the production of his second jazz recording. 聽The award was announced on March 17, at the opening of the Jazz en rafale concert series.

On March 21st, 2016 the聽QS World University Rankings by Subject 2016 were announced and 捆绑SM社区's Schulich School of Music was named the top Canadian performing arts university in the country.聽QS聽rankings highlight the world鈥檚 top universities in 42 subjects, based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. 聽The Schulich School of Music was ranked 26th overall.

Marcelo Wanderley appointed an INRIA International Chair, 2016-20.

Professor Marcelo M. Wanderley聽has been awarded an Inria International Chair for 2016-2020.聽Prof. Wanderley is the first 捆绑SM社区 researcher to be awarded this chair and is among the four awardees this year.聽Inria聽is the聽French National Institute for Computer Science and Applied Mathematics.

Anna Peletsis, a doctoral聽piano聽student of Professor Marina Mdivani, has won the 捆绑SM社区 Concerto Competition and will perform next season with the McGIll Symphony Orchestra.

An Interview with Wirth Vocal Prize winner Chelsea Rus

On Feb. 7,聽Chelsea Rus聽was named the winner of the inaugural Wirth Vocal Prize. According to the Schulich School of Music鈥檚 website, the $25,000 prize is given to 鈥渁n exceptional voice student鈥 in recognition of outstanding accomplishment as a singer and significant promise for an international career.鈥 Pretty heady stuff for any young singer 鈥 but especially so for Rus, who had never even heard an opera until her first year of college in 2009 back home in Abbotsford, B.C.

Elinor Frey wins Opus Prize for the Berlin Sonatas
