À¦°óSMÉçÇø is renowned for its academic excellence and continues to set the standard for higher education in Canada. Attracting top students and faculty members from every continent, it is widely recognized as one of the most international universities in North America and is consistently ranked as one of Canada's top universities.

The PhD Program in Management's focus on research and scholarly activities combined with its emphasis on close student/faculty working relationships clearly differentiates it from other programs. The program also offers wide opportunities for customization, demanding strong student initiative in the shaping of individual programs of study.

Finally, it offers students a rare and dynamic multicultural environment in which to share ideas and examine management issues, with a student body that typically hails from the four corners of the globe, guided by international faculty.

Student initiative

The program fosters independent, creative work on the part of its students. With a minimum of formal requirements, students are encouraged to determine their own direction under the guidance of their advisory and thesis committees.

Student/Professor contact

À¦°óSMÉçÇø favours close, personal contact between faculty and students. Small-sized classes and the "committee" format provide doctoral students with numerous opportunities to interface and exchange ideas with professors. A high professor/student ratio ensures that faculty members can devote substantial time and energy to student development.

Focus on contemporary global issues

Our ultimate goal at À¦°óSMÉçÇø is to stimulate research related to emerging global business issues. This is achieved through the faculty's dedication to current research topics, its involvement with the business community, its international links and its inter-university exchange opportunities.

The joint PhD program – A broader perspective

The PhD Program in Management is offered jointly with the three other Montreal universities:

  1. Concordia University;
  2. École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC) of the Université de Montréal, and;
  3. Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM).

The joint nature of the program gives doctoral students access to over 250 professors qualified to direct doctoral research among the four universities and an array of courses taught in both English and French. Students are given the opportunity to acquire a basic knowledge of French, which gives them access to a wider selection of courses as they can consider all those offered by the four universities combined. In addition, the vast library resources of each university are available to all doctoral students.
