Half-day visit by EMBA class to Kahnawa:ke in March with the TRC calls to action in mind for business. EDI session held in EMBA Sustainability Module with speaker Sema Burney. Participating in Faculty initiative to examine BCom selection and create pathways for underrepresented groups (URGs). Ongoing Committee created as part of the overall BCom redesign process to examine what we can do in our BCom selection to ensure admission of more members of URGs.
Drafting report for BCom Curriculum Review Task Force on implementation strategies and outcomes for pathway initiatives for underrepresented groups (URGs) at other faculties, universities and business schools. In process; to be submitted by end of April 2022. BCom admissions review working group is exploring the idea of introducing "pathways" for URGs but continuing to search for further information on outcomes and implementation.
Call for proposals to address Anti-Black Racism (ABR) Applications received in March; projects ongoing. Created a call for proposals for small grants related to ABR. Received 5 applications and are working with the applicants to revise proposals and assist in implementation.
MDIIM Fellowship Applications received in March; names of students the EDI team would work with submitted to Alexandra Samra on April 8. Following successful completion of the program by our first MDIIM fellow, the EDI team is accepting students for the purpose of working on EDI related projects/research. Applicants have been through an interview process, and students selected for the Fellowship to be notified in the coming months.
Member of the PhD Project to support PhD students from URGs. Ongoing The PhD project is an organization that helps members of URGs who are pursuing a PhD. It is a member sponsored organization offering workshops, job boards, etc. to aid in these efforts.
Collaboration with Soutar Career Management about accessing and developing subsidized internships for Indigenous and International students. Ongoing In discussions to collaborate on the development of subsidized internships for Indigenous and International students. Further discussion and research to be completed before moving forward with the support of Career Management.
Ongoing collaboration with Branches Programs (see details). Ongoing Two workshops organized by Joy Bennett for the Branches Explore À¦°óSMÉçÇø program. Professors Hollister and Dhir created workshops for prospective high school and cegep students from URGs. Prof. Dongyoung Lee requested a summer intern form the IMPRESS Program, designed to encourage Indigenous students to explore academic research; partnered with IMPRESS to identify participants and mentors as well as to amplify social media posts. Alumni guests O'Nell Agossa and Torie Williams took part in Pick Yor Path initiative, an online learning experience for Indigenous summer students between the ages of 16-25.
Indigenous Alumni Meeting - EMBA Ongoing EMBA administration met with Indigenous alumni to assess student experience and discuss strategies for recruitment; future meetings to be held at a date to be determined.
