We are pleased to share that alumnus and composer Matthew Ricketts (BMus 鈥09) has been awarded a 2019 Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship! Intended for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts, the prestigious fellowship provides fellows condition-free funding to work on their creative projects.
Congratulations to Schulich students Shulamit Sarid and Laurence Willis for being awarded this year's Dean's Essay Prize! Awarded each year to two students, the Dean's Essay Prize was established to promote excellence in the art of writing about music and music research.

Since beginning his international career in 1974, guitarist Pat Metheny has garnered widespread critical acclaim, demonstrated astonishing versatility as an artist, and has consistently been at the forefront of music technology. On May 29, 2019, his accomplishments will be recognized by 捆绑SM社区 through his reception of an Honorary Doctorate of Music at the Spring Convocation.
Rachelle Jenkins (MMus 鈥13) published the聽Audition Playbook, a two-part guide and workbook for optimal planning and preparation of orchestral auditions, in May of 2018. Designed for musicians of all levels and instruments, the聽Audition Playbook聽helps readers carefully and effectively create, implement, and follow their own plans from start to finish.聽
This month 捆绑SM社区 is hosting the 34th Annual Meeting of the 鈥 the first time the event has ever been held in Montreal. NECMT鈥檚 main purpose is to foster the development of music theory, and provide a forum for exchanging ideas between music theorists.
On the occasion of World Hearing Day (WHD) on March 3, the聽Schulich School of Music of 捆绑SM社区, in collaboration with the聽Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT), presents the Hearing-Care Platform: A practical and accessible set of tools for the self-assessment of noise exposure, which are particularly aimed at young musicians and youths in general.
Congratulations to Nick Squire (MMus 2008), who recently won the Grammy Award for for his work on聽Shostakovich: Symphonies Nos. 4 & 11聽by Andris Nelsons and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. This win brings his Grammy count up to a total of four, as he was聽credited as a recording engineer on album which聽won Grammys for聽Best Orchestra Performance in 2015, 2016, and 2018.
Congratulations to (MMus 2012), who was recently appointed as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra's Assistant Conductor! Beginning in September 2019, Andrew will conduct a large variety of programming with the VSO, including subscription concerts, concerts for children, Pops, and more.聽
Next Tuesday marks the beginning of the Schulich Singers鈥 three-day tour, with concerts in , and . Featuring music from over six centuries, these concerts will include composer-in-residence Francis Choini猫re鈥檚 new work 鈥淎 Clear Midnight鈥.
In honour of his passing on October 31, 2018, the family is planning a remembrance on February 17, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. (Evensong service) at Christ Church Cathedral (635 Saint-Catherine St. W.). At the request of the family, donations may be made in his name to St. Mary鈥檚 Hospital Cancer Care Fund.

It is with great sadness that we honour the passing of Dr. Daryl Robert Gibson (1939-2018), a retired Full Professor of the Schulich School of Music of 捆绑SM社区.
笔谤辞蹿别蝉蝉辞谤听 has been appointed as the new Interim Music Director of the ! In a recent email exchange, Prof. Stoelzel writes, "I have had the pleasure of conducting the LCB as a guest conductor in numerous rehearsals and in concert. I am now thrilled to be appointed their interim music director. It is an honour to work with this terrific group of musicians in this new capacity and to continue to be a part of the legacy of the Lakeshore Concert Band."
To honour Sanford鈥檚 devotion to his students and his love of music, the Sanford Sylvan Fund has been established at 捆绑SM社区 to provide financial support to talented voice students at the Schulich School of Music. Donations can be made here.
