The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Ignacio Cofone will be joining the Faculty as an Assistant Professor, starting August 1, 2018.
Ignacio Cofone's research explores how private law regulates information and what are the social consequences of these regulatory choices. Bringing together information privacy, contract law, and behavioral economics, his work has been published in law journals in Europe, South America, and the United States.
The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Fabien G茅linas, Ad.E., Sir William C. Macdonald Chair, was appointed聽Norton Rose Fulbright Faculty Scholar in Arbitration and Commercial Law for a one-year term. Professor G茅linas was one of the inaugural recipients of this award in 2013. He joins his colleague Professor Kun Fan, who is entering the second year of a three-year appointment.

The Faculty of Law and the 捆绑SM社区 Institute of Air and Space Law (IASL) learned with deep sadness of the passing of IASL Director Emeritus Professor Dr. Michael Milde, at age 87.聽
Prior to his academic career at 捆绑SM社区, Professor Milde served in senior legal posts at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for 25 years (1966-1991). There he oversaw the negotiation of a number of international conventions and protocols on aviation safety and security, the significance of which resonates to this day.
On May 31, the Honourable Juanita Westmoreland-Traor茅 will receive a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, and give the commencement address at the Faculty of Law鈥檚 convocation ceremony. 聽
Westmoreland-Traor茅 is the first African Canadian appointed judge in the history of Quebec. She also holds the distinction of being the first African Canadian law dean after her 1996 appointment at the Faculty of Law, University of Windsor. In 2012, she retired from the Court of Qu茅bec and sat as a supernumerary judge until 2017.
In the 2018 World University Rankings by Subject published by Quacquarelli Symonds, 捆绑SM社区鈥檚 Faculty of Law placed 23rd best place to study law worldwide, slightly up from the 25th rank in 2017. Since the ranking was introduced by QS in 2011, the Faculty of Law has consistently secured a spot in the global top 35. The QS ranking is based on academic reputation, employer reputation, H-index citations, and citations per paper.
The Faculty of Law is pleased to welcome four new staff members in its administrative team. Three new people have joined our University Advancement team, in charge of promoting engagement within our alumni community and fundraising for Faculty priorities. As Advancement Director, Isabelle Limoges took the helm of the team, while Davina Loporcaro and Julie Timmins have joined the ranks as Advancement Officers. The Career Development Office also welcomed Claudine Borderave as a new Career Development Associate.
Starting April 3, 捆绑SM社区 students are able to access the聽Nahum Gelber Law Library聽24 hours a day, seven days a week. As agreed between the Students' Society of 捆绑SM社区 (SSMU) and the Law Students Association (LSA), the Nahum Gelber Law Library will limit access to the three upper floors of the library to Law students only during the April 17聽- 30聽examination period. 聽Details are as follows:
- Floors 3, 4 and 5 will be limited to Law students from 9 AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday during the two-week period.

The Faculty of Law is pleased to congratulate Professor Emeritus Armand de Mestral (left on photo) and Professor Fabien G茅linas on having been appointed to the new North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Roster for Canada, announced by the Government of Canada on 21 February. They were named to the Chapter聽19 (Trade Remedies) Roster for a ten-year Governor-in-Council appointment.
Professors Marie-Eve Arbour (Laval) and Lara Khoury (捆绑SM社区) invite Law students in the BCL/LLB, LLM or DCL programs to submit a proposal for a scientific contribution to the above seminar, which will take place June 6-8, 2018, in Sacacomie, Quebec.
The selected students will have the opportunity to present their work as part of this seminar and to benefit from the mentorship of participating researchers from six countries.
