Trainees & Special Students


Nicole D鈥檚ouza is a graduate student in the Social & Transcultural Psychiatry Program at 捆绑SM社区. Her proposed Master鈥檚 project will investigate the construct of resilience in the indigenous populations of the Peruvian highlands. She is supported by the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) Master鈥檚 Award, and will be conducting her fieldwork in Peru between October, 2010 and April 2011.Prior to her enrollment in the Master鈥檚 program, Nicole received her B.Sc in Psychology from the University of Toronto.

Fannie Martel-Lantendresse is a Master's student in the Social & Transcultural Psychiatry Program at 捆绑SM社区. She comes from a background of social work, and is currently investigating health seeking behaviour, and traditional health systems of El Alto, Bolivia. She will be conducting her fieldwork in Bolivia between July, 2010 and December, 2010.

Eliana Suarez is a doctoral student at the University of Toronto in the Faculty of Social Work. Her research focuses on the trans-cultural elements of resilience and traumatic stress, which is currently supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Doctoral Award. She will conduct field research in Peru between 2009-2010 and will use a comparative framework to examine the survivorship of indigenous women that experienced sexual violence during the armed conflict. The TGH Program will be providing logistical support during Eliana鈥檚 field research.

Prior to her PHD, Eliana worked in adult mental health in the Greater Toronto Area for over ten years. She is also a sessional instructor at Ryerson University and the University of Toronto. Her courses vary from social work practice, crisis intervention to quantitative research methods. Eliana holds a BSc in Economics (Universidad del Pacifico, Peru), Hns BA in Psychology (Trent University, ON) and a Master in Social Work (University of Toronto).
