Building industrial and international collaborations through Mitacs internships (Downtown)

Tuesday, March 21, 2017 14:30to16:00
Arts Building, CA, QC, Montreal, CA

The Office of Sponsored Research is pleased to invite faculty members and researchers to an outreach session focusing on the available programs sponsored by Mitacs which offers financial assistance to students interested in undertaking research through a university-business partnership. This session would also benefit faculty members as these programs can lead to new connections with Canadian companies (for-profit, not-for-profit and non-governmental organizations), increased funding and unique training opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows through applied, industrial research projects. Mitacs also supports 2-way mobility of students between Canada and the international community

捆绑SM社区 will host Jean-Philippe Valois, Mitacs Business Development Director, who will present various programs and provide helpful tips on how to mix and match these programs. He will also provide details on projects that have successfully used these programs to the advantage of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and researchers.

Discussion will center on the following programs:

Mitacs Accelerate and Elevate听

Through the and programs, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows apply their specialized expertise to business-related research challenges. Interns (graduate students or postdoctoral fellows) bring new perspectives to the problems faced by the industry partners by spending approximately half their time on site with the partner organization, interacting with staff and furthering their understanding of the challenge. The remainder of the intern鈥檚 time is spent at their university, where they develop new tools, techniques, methodologies, and/or solutions to the partner organization鈥檚 research challenge with the support of their academic supervisor. This program is open to all disciplines and all industrial sectors, and projects can span a wide range of areas, including manufacturing, technical innovation, business processes, IT, social sciences, design, and more.

Mitacs Globalink

Through the 听program, senior undergraduate and graduate students are provided funding to facilitate two-way mobility to partner countries to do research with a host university. There are awards for students coming to Canada and students going abroad to strengthen collaborative ties with countries such as Australia, Brazil, China, France, India, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia.

We will accept questions ahead of time so information can be incorporated into the session and help guide discussion (jpvalois [at] mitacs [dot] ca (Jean-Philippe) or agnes [dot] wong2 [at] mcgill [dot] ca (Agnes))
