Canada Research Chairs (CRCs)
The program stands at the centre of a national strategy to make Canada one of the world's top five countries for research and development.
In 2000, the Government of Canada created a new permanent program to establish 2000 research professorships鈥擟anada Research Chairs鈥攊n universities across the country by 2008. The Canada Research Chairs Program invests $300 million a year to attract and retain some of the world's most accomplished and promising minds.
Canada Excellence Research Chairs (CERCs)
The Canada Excellence Research Chairs (CERC) Program offers universities award values of either $8 million or $4 million over eight years to support world鈥憆enowned researchers and their teams to establish ambitious research programs at Canadian universities.
Canada 150 Research Chairs (C150s)
The Canada 150 Research Chairs Program, announced in Budget 2017, invests $117.6 million to enhance Canada's reputation as a global centre for science, research and innovation excellence, in celebration of Canada鈥檚 150th anniversary. It provides Canadian institutions with a one-time investment to attract top-tier, internationally-based scholars and researchers to Canada.
Endowed Chairs
Endowed chairs and professorships are one the highest academic awards that the University can bestow on a faculty member, with some named entities being as old as the University itself. Thus, it is both an honour to the named holder of the appointment and also an enduring tribute to the donor who helped establish it.
