Student funding and office space

Funding

Students are encouraged to consider multiple forms of funding: internal and external sources including 1) provincial () and 2) federal ( (SSHRC) and grant agencies and 3) graduate research or teaching assistantships. Graduate and postdoctoral studies manages all internal and many external graduate student award competitions.

For students working with data from Statistics Canada and/or the Institut de la statistique du Qu茅bec, the provides a number of scholarships:

  1. Entrance scholarships (MA $1000; PhD $2000)
  2. Student research production (a publication or presentation based on their QICSS project) $300-$2000 (depending on media type)
  3. Complementary grant (MA students - for one semester of intensive data analysis) $2000

The , also supports the next generation of highly qualified personnel (HQP) through the CRDCN Emerging Scholars Grant, a $1,200听grant to Ph.D. students who are undertaking thesis-related research in one of the 32 Research Data Centres (RDCs) at universities across the country. Office Space

Graduate student office space is available in the Social Statistics Lab (Peterson Hall, Room 304). Ideal for research assistants and students doing quantitative research on social scientific topics, the lab boasts a stimulating and positive research environment, where students from a variety of disciplines, at various stages of graduate training, are invited to collaborate and facilitate each others' research and academic progress.听
