Nick Squire (MMus '08) has received Grammy Award in the category of Best Orchestral Performance for his work as Sound Engineer on the recording of Shostakovich: Under Stalin's Shadow - Symphonies Nos. 5, 8 & 9, recorded by Deutsche Grammophon. 聽The Boston Symphony Orchestra was led by conductor 聽Andris Nelsons.聽

This year, the Soci茅t茅 de musique contemporaine du Qu茅bec (SMCQ) marks its 50th anniversary and Schulich students will be playing a major part in the celebrations. Notably, the 捆绑SM社区 Symphony Orchestra (MGSO) is set to perform parts of Walter Boudreau鈥檚 Berliner Momente under direction of the composer himself on the opening night of the SMCQ鈥檚 Montr茅al/New Musiques Festival 2017.

Montreal is crowned the world's top student city

There鈥檚 already plenty to celebrate during Montreal鈥檚 375th anniversary year, and now there鈥檚 yet another reason: Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has named Montreal the world鈥檚 number-one student city. The global higher education analyst released its fifth annual QS Best Student Cities ranking on February 14, 2017.
Prof. Edward Klorman a 2017 PROSE Award Recipient
Professor Edward Klorman has received the 2017 PROSE Award in the category of Music and the Performing Arts for his book聽Mozart鈥檚 Music of Friends: Social Interplay in the Chamber Works, published by聽Cambridge University Press. 聽The annual PROSE Awards recognize the very best in professional and scholarly publishing by bringing attention to distinguished books, journals, and electronic content in 53 categories.

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) has聽聽announced the nominees for the 46th Annual JUNO Awards and this year聽Schulich faculty, alumni and former faculty are well-represented in the lists of finalists. Opus Prize winners announced
The 20th annual Conseil Qu茅becois de la musique Gala was held on Sunday, February 5th, at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. 聽Under the artistic direction of Alain Gauthier, Qu茅bec's musical community gathered to celebrate the artists, performers, musical ensembles, cultural organizations, composers and musicologists who have shone across the province and beyond聽over the past year. 聽Once again, there were many awards distributed to members of the Schulich community.

Schulich Brass named to semi-finals in the National Trumpet Competition
The 捆绑SM社区 Trumpet Ensemble, let by Professor Richard Stoelzel,聽has advanced to the semi finals of the National Trumpet Competition to be held in March 2017 in Denver,Colorado. In addition, Francis LaPorte and Brent Proseus have advanced to the semi finals of the National Trumpet Competition College Solo Division.聽
Rashaan Allwood Prizewinner in the Wadden International Organ Competition
Rashaan Allwood, a student of Professor聽Hans-Ola Ericsson,聽was awarded second prize at the聽Wadden International Organ Competition in Denmark this past weekend. 聽HIs award of聽75.000 Danish Krona is approximately $14,000 Canadian. 聽鈥淚 am indeed very proud of 聽Rashaan whose聽shows exceptional hard work,talent, and determination," said Prof.
