Prof. Stephen McAdams wins Killam Fellowship
Professor听Stephen McAdams,听Canada Research Chair in Music Perception and Cognition, is one of six outstanding Canadian researchers to be awarded a Canada Council for the Arts Killam Research Fellowship.听He is the second Killam Research Fellowship recipient from the Schulich School of Music.
The Killam Fellowships, made possible by a bequest of Mrs. Dorothy J. Killam,听support scholars engaged in research projects of outstanding merit in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, engineering and interdisciplinary studies within these fields. They听include a two-year release from teaching and administrative duties,听valued at $70,000 per year.
During this period, Professor McAdams will continue the听orchestration and perception听research听underway in his laboratory at 捆绑SM社区, which spans the arts, sciences and humanities. 听This听project听is the first to focus听on the relations among the perceptual properties of musical timbre and the principles of auditory perceptual organization, as well as the structuring, expressive, and affective properties of timbre as used by composers.听Once complete, he will publish his research findings听in the form of a book and pedagogical website.
