Mount Sinai Sanatorium.

The Mount Sinai Sanatorium (Hospital) opened in 1909聽near Ste-Agathe-des-Monts (about 100 km from Montreal), for Jewish patients, as a nine-bed tuberculosis sanatorium. The Sanatorium's聽location provided patients fresh air at a relatively high altitude, both features believed to be helpful in the treatment of tuberculosis at the time. In 1930, the sanatorium moved to a specially constructed building聽capable of accommodating over 90 patients. After the introduction of antibiotic therapy for tuberculosis in the 1950s, the hospital鈥檚 mission changed to include care of patients with chronic pulmonary disease of other sorts. In 1990, it moved to C么te St-Luc in Montreal where it is concerned primarily with long-term and palliative care.
