Description
Front view shows the right atrium (R) and ventricle (V), with an anomalous membranous “septum” crossing the atrium (arrow). A thin blue rod below it passes through an atrial septal defect; a thicker blue rod on the right goes through a ventriculo-septal defect.
Comment
In most cases of tricuspid atresia, there is no or minimal communication between the right atrium and ventricle (which is often hypoplastic). In this case, the valve is absent rather than stenotic and the right ventricle appears normal. The origin of the atrial septum is unclear.
