Exhibition: The Lighthalls: A 捆绑SM社区 Family at War
The Lighthalls were a typical Montreal and聽捆绑SM社区 family whose members participated聽in the First World War in different ways. William聽D. Lighthall (M.A. 1879, B.C.L. 1881, L.L.D.聽1921) was one of the founders of the Great War聽Veterans鈥 Association and was active in聽supporting the war effort in Montreal. His聽inaugural address as president of the Royal聽Society of Canada was on 鈥淐anadian Poets of聽the Great War鈥 (1918). He was also a聽member of the Montreal Branch of the聽Armenian Relief Fund Association of Canada.聽William S. Lighthall (Arts 1916, B.C.L. 1922)聽enlisted in September 1914 and later joined the聽Royal Flying Corps and served in Palestine and聽Mesopotamia. He was awarded a D.F.C in 1919.聽Alice Lighthall (Arts 1913) joined the Volunteer聽Aid Detachment (V.A.D) and nursed at the No. 5聽General Hospital in Rouen, 1916-1918 and her聽sister, Cybel (Arts 1914), was a V.A.D. in聽Canada, 1916-1918. Finally, Mrs. Lighthall聽(Cybel Wilkes) was one of the early workers聽in developing and providing rehabilitation for聽wound soldiers.
The exhibition will use letters, photographs聽and diaries in the Lighthall Papers held in Rare聽Books and Special Collections and other聽contemporary documents.聽
