Faculty and Staff traveling on university business outside their province of residence can be covered for Emergency medical coverage听for听unforeseen emergency medical expenses incurred abroad through American International Group Inc, (AIG),听upon registering for this coverage. This coverage is essential as it includes medical expenses incurred as a direct result of war, insurrection, and terrorism.听This coverage is supplemental to Manulife鈥檚 Out-Of-Country Emergency Travel Assistance benefit for members enrolled in the 捆绑SM社区 Supplemental Health Plan.听
Certain travel destinations are not eligible for this coverage, while others require pre-approved by the insurance carrier, AIG. To proceed with the pre-approval assessment, you must register your travel information at least 30 days prior to departure by using the University Business Travel Registration Form available below.听 Please read the information below prior to completing the form as some restrictions apply.听
Faculty and Staff members who are not participating in 捆绑SM社区鈥檚 Supplemental Health Plan can still benefit from this coverage, provided they have provincial health care coverage in force.
Before you travel
- Only Faculty and Staff who are traveling on university business and properly registered through the form available below are covered by this insurance. This听coverage does not extend to any additional days taken that are not related to university business.
- Vacation travel is not covered under this plan. Therefore if you are traveling for personal reasons (i.e. vacation), do听not complete the form.听Members of the Supplemental Health Plan are covered by听Manulife's听Out-Of-Country Emergency Travel Assistance.
- Students are not听eligible for this coverage.
- To be eligible for this coverage, you must be covered by a provincial health plan, such as la R茅gie de l'assurance de maladie du Qu茅bec (RAMQ).
- Faculty and staff who live and work in Quebec, and travel for business within Quebec, are not required to complete a form.
- Faculty and Staff must advise their unit of any planned business travel. Should there be any changes made to the itinerary (travel destinations, and duration) Faculty and Staff must inform their unit, as well as the Benefits Office.

- Certain travel destinations may not be eligible for this coverage.
- If听you are travelling to a "Country at Risk of Conflict"听that requires pre-approval, please follow the guidelines indicated below.鈥嬧赌嬧赌
- Coverage is subject to an Emergency Travel Assistance benefit's lifetime maximum of $1,000,000 per person and for a maximum of 180 days per trip. The lifetime maximum is reduced to $500,000 at age 75.
- Check the 鈥 from the Government of Canada to make sure your destination is safe for travel and register with Consular Services. Visit 捆绑SM社区鈥檚 Travel Services鈥 website for more information.

If you are traveling to any of the listed countries below that require pre-approval, you must:
- Complete the听University Business Travel Registration Form below
- Email HR Shared Services at hr.hr [at] mcgill.ca and copy the Benefits office at听benefits [at] mcgill.ca at least 30 days before your departure to ensure that coverage is approved by our carrier. Please include the departure and return dates of the country you are planning to visit.
