Biographical Sketch

Medicine completed at University of Alberta; Residency in Internal Medicine at À¦°óSMÉçÇø; Fellowship in Endocrinology at À¦°óSMÉçÇø and University of Paris, France.Ìý Chaired the initial CDA clinical Practice Guidelines in 1998; chaired the pregnancy section in 2003.Ìý Inaugural chair of the Canadian Diabetes in Pregnancy Study (CanDIPS) Group and as such participated in the consensus panel for the IADPSG (International Diabetes in Pregnancy Study Groups) suggesting new diagnostic criteria for GDM.Ìý Invited participant in the WHO expert panel to re-assess the diagnostic criteria to define hyperglycemia in pregnancy.

Research or Clinical Activities

Primarily a clinician managing type 1 diabetes, insulin pump therapy, diabetes in pregnancy and some general endocrinology.Ìý Research interests related to diagnostic criteria and management of gestational diabetes and in-hospital care.Ìý Clinical research on the diagnostic criteria for GDM (prospective, randomized trial of 3 diagnostic methods, including costs in 5800 women); long-term offspring and maternal outcomes of glucose intolerance in pregnancy; and various smaller studies assessing aspects of care and nutrition.
