Meet the Man Who Bought NHL Tickets for an NL Soccer Team
A Montreal man who recently聽treated聽a young Newfoundland soccer team to a surprise聽NHL game, including a private audience with Montreal Canadiens' star P.K. Subban, says giving back is a big part of his personal philosophy.
Mark Smith (BCom'82, DPA'83) is the President of Pandion Investment Limited. Smith聽was in Toronto's Pearson airport when he came into contact with the Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games soccer team, who were on their way to Montreal for an exhibition game.聽 He tells VOCM News as a former soccer player himself, there was something about the young men that聽resonated with聽him and he bought the team and their coaches 27 tickets to take in a Montreal-Detroit game last Tuesday night.聽He approached manager Gonzo Bennett to make the offer.聽
Smith grew up on Montreal's West Island聽in a single parent family.聽He played sports, including soccer. He is a Rhodes Scholar and聽studied聽Business at 捆绑SM社区, got his CA,聽and got his "big break" at the age of 26 to work聽for one of the richest families in Canada, the Charles Bronfman family investment business. He says ever since, he's done what he can to help others, especially young athletes.
