Published: 8 March 2004

A team of 捆绑SM社区 MBA students has won first place at one of the largest international case competitions in North America. The Vanderbilt MBA eStrategy Case Competition was held at the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where 15 top business schools strove to develop a growth strategy for WebMD Envoy. 捆绑SM社区 MBA students Dave Purewal, Christian Reece and Russell Seidle were awarded a US$15,000 prize after being selected by a panel of industry leaders.

"These results show how strong 捆绑SM社区 MBA students are in generating creative and well-founded solutions to business challenges," says Alfred Jaeger, Associate Dean and Director of the 捆绑SM社区 MBA Program. "The diversity of students and backgrounds in the 捆绑SM社区 MBA program exposes students to a variety of perspectives, which are key in shaping innovative solutions. In addition, case competitions are excellent venues for participants to demonstrate what they can achieve under pressure, and provide an experience which is invaluable on the job market."

Business school students were invited to participate in the fifth annual competition by devising a growth strategy for WebMD Envoy. Fifteen teams from US and international business schools entered the first round of competition in late January. The six finalists were chosen by a group of judges from WebMD Envoy in February. This year marked the first time that an international school was retained as a finalist. "Our international entries have been growing each year and often bring a different perspective to the cases," says Lara Kauchak, contest director.

For the final round of competition, the student teams expanded on their first-round submissions, going into considerably more depth and making final presentations before a panel of judges that included representatives of WebMD Envoy. These recommendations, accompanied by a marketing plan, will be considered by WebMD Envoy in the company's planning processes.

A team from the Harvard Business School won last year's competition.
