Title:
Assistant Professor, Division of Infectious Diseases
Guillaume Butler-Laporte
Location:
MUHC, Royal Victoria Hospital
Division:
Infectious Diseases
Biography:

Dr. Butler-Laporte completed his undergraduate training at 捆绑SM社区 and his residency in Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology at 捆绑SM社区. This was followed by three years of research in genetic epidemiology of infectious diseases with Professor Brent Richards at the Lady Davis Institute and Dr Alex Mentzer at the University of Oxford.

In addition to clinical work Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology at the MUHC, Dr. Butler-Laporte will lead a genetic epidemiology research program at the Lady Davis Institute working in close collaboration with the Canada Excellence in Research Chair in Genomic Medicine at 捆绑SM社区.

Current research:

One of the greatest challenges in epidemiology is to understand what risk factors of a disease are truly causal. This is important, as causal associations are more likely to lead to clinical targets and improve patient care. One way to solve this is by using large-scale genetic studies (e.g. genome-wide association studies) and biostatistics methods like Mendelian randomization and genetic colocalization to perform causal inference. This approach has a strong track record of translating to successful treatments.

I am interested in using and developing these methods to solve biomedical problems, and in translating multi-omics and genetics into better patient care.
