HBHL is partnering again with 捆绑SM社区鈥檚 Branches on the 2023 edition of the Indigenous Mentorship and Paid Research Experience for Summer Students (IMPRESS) program.

The IMPRESS program aims to provide Indigenous students at the early stages of their academic career with meaningful experience and skills through mentorship, training sessions, and paid work under the supervision of a 捆绑SM社区 professor.

In an announcement made Wednesday, Canada鈥檚 leading research ranking organization, RE$EARCH Infosource, scored 捆绑SM社区 second among an A-list of three in the Medical/Doctoral Research University of the Year (RUY) tier. 捆绑SM社区 was ranked third on RE$EARCH Infosource鈥檚 list of Canada鈥檚 Top 50 Research Universities in 2022, a position the University has maintained for four years. These distinctions reflect, in part, 捆绑SM社区's strength in attracting research funding and the strong publishing record of the school's professors.

HBHL's Research Theme 1 Associate Leader plays an essential role in HBHL鈥檚 governance and decision-making structure. They also provide input to HBHL's strategic direction, including the development of funding initiatives and activities aimed at reaching HBHL鈥檚 goals.

捆绑SM社区鈥檚 Board of Governors has extended the current appointment of Professor聽Martha聽Crago as Vice-Principal (Research and Innovation) for a one-year period, from June 30, 2023, to June 30, 2024.聽

The extension will ensure stable leadership of the Research and Innovation portfolio during the upcoming Principal and Vice-Chancellor transition and allow the new Principal to actively participate in selecting Professor Crago鈥檚 successor.

Alzheimer鈥檚 disease is a disorder characterized by abnormalities in several different biological areas.

A study carried out by HBHL-funded researcher Yasser Iturria-Medina and his research group, in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at The Neuro, represents the first and largest multimodal data collection effort to date for Alzheimer鈥檚 disease.

This work represents the most significant effort so far to classify Alzheimer's disease from a multi-level molecular perspective.

What is the link between substance use and psychosis? Is there a higher chance to develop psychotic disorders for people who use cannabis?

Dr. Rachel Rabin, HBHL-funded researcher at The Neuro, is working to understand the neurocognitive and social cognitive dysfunction in individuals with substance use disorders.

The aim of her study is to help identify therapeutic targets to improve treatments for individuals suffering from schizophrenia and/or cannabis addictions.

It is my great pleasure to announce that Dr. Cecile Baccanale has accepted the position of 捆绑SM社区 Veterinarian and Associate Vice-Principal, Animal Care. Dr. Baccanale is also appointed Full Professor (Professional) in the Department of Medicine (Division of Experimental Medicine) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Her appointment will commence on October 17, 2022.
