At the 2017 edition of the Faculty of Medicine Student Research Day, 捆绑SM社区 SPOT Physiotherapy Students were well represented, winning three Sir Edward W. Beatty Memorial Final Report Awards. Ali Alias was awarded the Best Winter 2017 Research Report, Rachel Medvedev was awarded 2nd Place (Schools Category), Top Summer 2017 Research Report, and Yoon Seo Lee, was awarded 3rd Place (Schools Category), Top Summer 2017 Research Project.
Dr. Stefanie Blain-Moraes has been awarded a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council () Partnership Engage Grant for her project titled 鈥Using participatory design to leverage biomusic technology to integrate neurodiverse populations into the workplace.鈥
Dr. Marie Brossard-Racine and her team have been awarded a New Investigator Grant in Maternal Reproductive, Child and Youth Health for their project titled 鈥淥ne year of brain maturation following a preterm birth.鈥

Congratulations to Dr. Anne Carswell, recipient of the 2017 Medicine Alumni Global Award of Merit for the School of Physical & Occupational Therapy in recognition of her extraordinary contribution to the profession. Dr. Shaun Cleaver was awarded the 2017 Steinberg Global Health Postdoctoral Fellowship at the recent 捆绑SM社区 Global Health Programs Award Night. The award鈥檚 purpose is to support the most promising scholars in global health and assist them in establishing a research base early in their careers. Shaun is a recent addition to SPOT, and as he states, 鈥渢he Steinberg Award was a crucial factor to draw me to 捆绑SM社区.鈥

Congratulations to Dr. Jonathan Lai on being one of the first cohort of CIHR Health System Impact Fellows! This program aims to impact policy and health systems through research. Dr. Lai has partnered with the Mariam Foundation in Montreal, and is a post-doc with Dr. Keiko Shikako Thomas and CHILD-BRIGHT.
Dr. Sarah Ahmed received the Dr. Joe Stratford Award for the Study of Pain at an Award dinner hosted by the 捆绑SM社区 Health Center, the MUHC Research Institute, and the MUHC Foundations. The award recognizes her team鈥檚 research in collaboration with the 捆绑SM社区 RUIS centre of expertise in chronic pain, which aims to improve the quality of care delivered to individuals with chronic pain. Dr. Sarah Ahmed and her team, including SPOT researchers Dr. Philippe Archambault, Dr. Anouk Lamontagne, and Dr. Annette Majnemer, have been awarded a Canadian Foundation of Innovation (CFI) award for their project titled 鈥淏RILLIANT-Rehab: Biomedical Research & Informatics Living Laboratory for Innovative Advances of New Technologies in Community Mobility Rehabilitation.鈥 Bringing together researchers from both 捆绑SM社区 and the University of Montreal, the vision of the BRILLIANT Rehab program is to optimize mobility of persons with acquired brain injury (ABI) across the lifespan.
Dr. Nancy Mayo was the 2017 David Hawkins Lecturer in Health Sciences Research. This lectureship was created jointly by the Medical Research Council of Canada and Memorial University of Newfoundland to honour contributions of Dr. Hawkins to health sciences research in the country. Dr. Mayo鈥檚 Lecture, which was given in September 2017, was entitled: 鈥淐ombining Observational and Interventional Research: Application of the Cohort Multiple Randomised Controlled Trial (cmRCT) Design to Understand and Optimize Brain Health Among People Aging with HIV.鈥
Dr. Nancy Mayo will is the 2018 recipient of the President鈥檚 Award for the International Society of Quality of Life (ISOQOL). This award is given annually to an individual who has advanced HRQOL research and has made outstanding contributions to the Society in one or more of the following areas: education of professionals, patients or lay individuals about HRQOL鈥檚 value; promotion or execution of HRQOL or other scholarly activities; and facilitating or furthering policy initiatives that have an impact on HRQOL.
