The overarching goal of the Essay Competition is to advance research and foster informed debate on federalism.听 Essays are evaluated by a jury comprised of world renown experts on federalism.听

Named in honour of the late professor and former dean John W. Durnford (BCL'52), and conferred by students, this annual award recognizes a law professor鈥檚 exceptional pedagogy.

It is with great pride that the Faculty of Law has learned that the 捆绑SM社区 Law cohort earned top place at the 脡cole du Barreau鈥檚 exams for 2022-2023. A remarkable 97.3% of 捆绑SM社区 Law graduates without preparatory courses passed the assessments, as did 100% of the graduates who took preparatory courses. This outstanding result was achieved in a particularly strong year, in which all law schools saw increases to their pass rates.
With mixed feelings of pride and sadness, the Faculty of Law heartily congratulates Professor Genevi猫ve Saumier on her appointment as dean of the Facult茅 de droit, Universit茅 de Montr茅al. She will begin a five-year term on 1 August 2024.
The Faculty of Law was once again ranked among the world鈥檚 top universities at which to study law by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject in Law and Legal Studies placed 捆绑SM社区 Law 28th worldwide, up one spot from 2023.
Since QS introduced the ranking in 2011, the Faculty of Law has consistently placed in the top 35 institutions globally. The QS ranking is based on academic reputation, employer reputation, H-index citations, and citations per paper.

As of Monday, April 8, 捆绑SM社区 students are able to access the Nahum Gelber Law Library 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As agreed between the Students' Society of 捆绑SM社区 (SSMU) and the Law Students Association (LSA), the Nahum Gelber Law Library will limit access to the three upper floors of the library to Law students only during the April 15 to 30 examination period.

Professor Jonas-S茅bastien Beaudry has been named Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Health, Inclusion and Policy for a five-year term.
Professor Adelle Blackett, FRSC, Ad E, has been reappointed as Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Transnational Labour Law for a second seven-year term.

Thanks to the generosity of Sophie Nappert (BCL鈥�86, LLB鈥�86), the Nappert Prize in International Arbitration is celebrating 10 years since its inauguration in 2014. The prize will be awarded by 捆绑SM社区 for the sixth time in 2024.
