Humanity has the skill to solve our most pressing problems, but cooperation is our greatest challenge, says Nabil Anouti, who is 捆绑SM社区 Desautels鈥 valedictorian for the Spring 2023 Convocation. But Anouti is optimistic, and this view has been shaped by a Desautels education.

A few weeks after starting his MBA at 捆绑SM社区, Mohammed Ashour, MSc鈥11, MBA鈥19 received an email announcing the Hult Prize 鈥 an annual, year-long competition that challenges university-level students to solve a pressing social issue. Teaming up with Gabe Mott (MBA鈥14), Ashour recruited three other colleagues from their MBA cohort: Shobhita Soor (BSc鈥10, BCL/LLB鈥15, MBA鈥15), Jesse Pearlstein (MBA鈥14), and Zev Thompson (惭叠础鈥14).
Ram Panda (MEng鈥71, MBA鈥77), 捆绑SM社区's Lead Planned Giving Ambassador and former Chair of the Board of Governors, will receive a Doctor of Laws honoris causa from the School of Continuing Studies at their convocation ceremony on June 7 at 6:30 PM. The Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) has honoured two graduates from 捆绑SM社区鈥檚 International Masters for Health Leadership (IMHL) program. Dr. Judy Morris, graduating this spring, was named Emergency Physician of the Year, while Dr. Fran莽ois de Champlain (IMHL'21) received the Special Merit Award, recognizing him as as a leader in making Canadian Emergency Medicine what it is today.
One of this year鈥檚 three Black Grad valedictorians, Julia Ayim (BCom鈥23) has just completed a Bachelor of Commerce specializing in Strategic Management and Organizational Behaviour at the Desautels Faculty of Management. She and fellow graduates were celebrated at the annual Black Grad gala on April 30, a sold-out event organized by the Black Students鈥 Network of 捆绑SM社区 (BSN).
As chief of the Service de police de l鈥橝gglom茅ration de Longueuil (SPAL), Fady Dagher (EMBA鈥12) carried out a real revolution in the force, and he has now taken the reins of the Service de Police de la Ville de Montr茅al (SPVM) as its new chief, writes 捆绑SM社区 Alumni News. In Longueil, Dagher took the concept of 鈥渃ommunity policing鈥 one step further by creating a 鈥減artnership police force鈥 that works hand-in-hand with social services. To understand the impact of the climate crisis on younger generations, empathy is a place to start. It is a necessary part of confronting, but on its own, it is not enough. Desautels lecturer Anita Nowak (BA'97, BCom'97, PhD'11) recently published her book聽Purposeful Empathy, which is described as聽an inspiring and powerful read by Quebec MNA D茅sir茅e McGraw in a review for Policy Magazine. 鈥淭his is a book that helps middle-aged people like me understand, collaborate and ultimately innovate with the next generation of Millennials and Gen Z,鈥 McGraw says.
As part of this Spring鈥檚 Convocation celebrations, 捆绑SM社区 will award honorary degrees 鈥 the highest order it can bestow 鈥 to 17 exceptional individuals who have made considerable contributions to society. Serge Godin, O.C., O.Q., Doctor of Laws, honoris causa (LL.D.), founder of CGI and a prominent figure in the Canadian technology industry, will be awarded an honorary degree from 捆绑SM社区鈥檚 Desautels Faculty of Management on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.
About thirty managers and entrepreneurs attended a recent 捆绑SM社区 Mini-MBA course in Matane, Quebec. It was the first time this type of course has been delivered in one of Quebec鈥檚 regions beyond Montreal and was the brainchild of local businessman Fran莽ois Rioux (MBA鈥10). 鈥淲hen you are on-location, you can see the energy and better understand the stakes, the challenges, and the successes,鈥 says Eric Saine, the Executive Director of 捆绑SM社区 Executive Education.
