After much anticipation, a shortlist of eight impressive titles was announced this week for the prestigious Cundill History Prize, an international history-writing prize administered by the Faculty of Arts at 捆绑SM社区. With $75,000 USD awarded to the winner and $10,000 USD to two finalists, the prize evidences 捆绑SM社区鈥檚 commitment to supporting leading scholarship produced around the globe.

Celebrating its 11th聽year, the Cundill History Prize announced聽a聽record number of submissions for 2018, with more than 400 titles聽accepted, up 25 percent from last year.聽Administered by the Faculty of Arts, the聽US$75,000聽prize will be awarded by聽a distinguished jury of world-leading historians. Five聽jurors were recently named to judge the impressive list of聽titles,聽which includes聽authors聽from richly diverse backgrounds tackling subjects as varied as religion and war, feminism and natural disasters, global finance and music.聽

Cosmologist Jonathan Sievers and international-relations scholar Jennifer Welsh will become Canada 150 Research Chairs at 捆绑SM社区. The appointments were among the oday at the聽Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec,聽by Minister of Science Kirsty Duncan.聽聽

Over the course of the Winter 2018 and Summer 2018 semesters the Education Collection, currently housed on the second floor the Humanties and Social Sciences Library, will be integrated into the main Humanities and Social Sciences Collection in the McLennan Library Building. The 捆绑SM社区 Law & Society Workshop Series invites scholars, graduate students and postdocs in law, the social sciences, and the humanities to present works-in-progress broadly falling within the field of law and society.

We seek papers that use qualitative, quantitative, or interpretivist methods to explore the complex relationship between legal phenomena and social, political, and economic interactions, institutions, and processes. Our interest in socio-legal research extends to state, non-state, formal, and informal norms, institutions, and processes.

Cohen is among the recipients of the 13 Prix du Qu茅bec, whose names were announced today at a press conference held in Montreal.
With a voice that stirs the senses and a gift for poetic language that touches the soul, Leonard Cohen has been remarkably prolific in a career that spans five decades. His first volume of poetry was published while he was still an undergraduate student in 捆绑SM社区鈥檚 Faculty of Arts and since then, he has used his abundant talents to inspire and move generations of readers and listeners around the world. A 捆绑SM社区 graduate (BA鈥55) and honorary degree recipient (DLitt鈥92), Cohen was voted one of the 鈥楪reatest 捆绑SM社区ians鈥, a contest organized by the 捆绑SM社区 Alumni Association as part of the celebration of the University鈥檚 190th anniversary.
