My CGPA is below 3.2. Can I still apply?
You can still apply for Graduate Studies if your CGPA is below 3.2. You may still be considered for admission if the Department believes you possess other strong attributes that would make a successful researcher or scholar. Note that the University minimum graduate admission CGPA is 3.0. Detailed information can be found at À¦°óSMÉçÇø Graduate Admission requirements.
My CGPA is too low. Can I be admitted doing a qualifying year?
No. The Department does not recommend students for admission pending completion of a qualifying year.
Do I need to take the TOEFL?
Please take a look at Proof of proficiency – not required
What is the institutional code for sending TOEFL results to À¦°óSMÉçÇø?
You must ensure that the official test results are sent directly to À¦°óSMÉçÇø (Institution Code: 0935) by the testing service. Students cannot upload their results themselves, nor can administration upload paper copies of their results. Applications cannot be considered if test results are not available. These scores are the general minimum; some departments may set higher requirements.
Please note that the Duolingo English Test (DET) is not accepted for admission to graduate programs at À¦°óSMÉçÇø.
Do I need to take the GRE?
The GRE is not required but recommended for international students.
Can you send me a list of all your professors who are looking for graduate students?
We do not maintain a separate list of professors looking for students as this is always subject to change. The list of Professors who are eligible to directly supervise graduate students can be found at the Faculty Members and Associate & Adjunct Members pages.
What is the best way to find a supervisor?
Please take a look at Connecting with a Supervisor
Do I have to find a supervisor before I apply to the program?
It is possible to apply online before finding a supervisor, but it is mandatory to have a supervisor before the application deadline in order to be considered for admission. If you do not find a supervisor, your application will be considered incomplete and will automatically be declined, regardless of your academic credentials.
I have contacted several professors, but none of them have responded to me. What should I do?
If someone doesn’t reply, it likely means that they are not recruiting graduate students for this term. You may want to continue to pursue other supervisors.
Do you have a quota of available spots for graduate students? Is there a limit to the number of international students that can be accepted?
No. Because a recommendation for acceptance is contingent upon a guarantee of funding from a supervisor, the number of students who will be accepted in each term is always fluctuating. There is no cap or quota for international students. Similarly, there is no set number of graduate students, domestic or international, who are accepted per term.
How can I check the status of my application?
Log into with your À¦°óSMÉçÇø ID and pin. You can check your application status as well as all documents received to date.
Is there an official form that my referees need to fill out?
While there is no specific form for recommendation letters, referees can either complete the "Recommendation" portion on the uApply form or an applicant can upload a separate letter which must be on letterhead.
Can my referees send their letters via email?
No. All the reference letters must be uploaded in uApply.
What level of funding is provided for graduate students?
All students receive a stipend paid from the supervisor’s grant and/or student scholarships. It is the responsibility of the student to seek alternate sources of funding through scholarships from the University and external granting agencies. See Funding Opportunities.
What are the fees?
Current tuition fee tables are available for viewing here.
How long does it take to complete a Ph.D.?
Candidates entering at Ph.D. 1 must follow a program of at least three years residency at the University; this is the minimum requirement, and there is no guarantee that the degree can be completed in this time. Candidates entering at Ph.D. 2 must follow a program of at least two years of residency at the University. In the doctoral program, students must be registered on a full-time basis for one more year after completion of the residency (i.e., Ph.D. 4 year) before continuing as additional session students until completion of the program.
