    Overview

    Jewish Studies : Reading of Hebrew prose and poetry written mostly in Eastern Europe, prior to and after the Russian revolution, and in Palestine during the mandate (1917 - 1948). Discussion of writers such as Mendele Mocher Sforim, Bialik, Agnon, Shlonsky and Shamir will focus on the striking emergence of modern Hebrew as a vehicle for secular art.
