Dr. Laurie Gottlieb, professor at the Ingram School of Nursing and founder of Strengths-Based Nursing and Healthcare (SBNH), is pleased to announce a special symposium on SBNH to be presented at The Fifth Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Conference in London, UK in March 2020.
The symposium entitled Strengths-Based Nursing and Healthcare: Re-envisioning Nursing, Breaking Down Barriers, Empowering Nurses, Clients/Patients/Families brings together 10 presenters from 7 institutions across 3 continents.
The symposium presentations will explore the following themes:
1. Educating Nurses in SBNH
1.1 Teaching SBNH in the BN program, U of Tasmania: Implementing a flipped classroom, Case- Based Model to promote learning outcomes. Presented by Lindsay Smith (U of Tasmania, Australia)
1.2 The process of operationalizing and implementing in À¦°óSMÉçÇø Nursing’s undergraduate curriculum. Presented by Annie Chevrier (À¦°óSMÉçÇø, Montreal, Canada)
2. Transforming the Workplace: Creating a Culture of Strengths-Based Care and Leadership
2.1 Creating an SBNH culture in a children’s rehabilitation hospital. Presented by Marilyn Ballantyne (Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, Toronto, Canada)
2.2 SBNH Training Program for clinical leaders and managers. Presented by Pam Hubley (SickKids Hospital, Toronto, Canada).
3. Empowering Nurses Through SBNH: Reclaiming Nursing---Finding Voice
3.1 Impact of SBNH reflective practice sessions on clinicians. Presented by Christina Clausen (CIUSSS Centre West, Montreal).
3.2 Empowering practice with SBNH – Student: A motor for change. Presented by Valerie Renoud-Grenier (HESAV-Lausanne).
4. Breaking Down Silos: Creating and Strengthening Partnerships
4.1 Advancing SBNH through the work of The À¦°óSMÉçÇø Collaborative. Presented by Melanie Lavoie-Tremblay (À¦°óSMÉçÇø).
4.2 Creating SBNH Communities of Practice around women’s health: Cases of Burkina Faso, Africa and Quebec Mimosa Community. Presented by Judith Lapierre (Laval University, Quebec).
The symposium will launch with an introduction to SBNH by Dr. Laurie Gottlieb and will close with a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Bruce Gottlieb.
