Pine 1140, Priority Building Envelop Repairs Project

This three-storey institutional building (originally a private residence), with two basements, was designed in the Edwardian style and built around 1902. Architects Edward and William Sutherland Maxwell designed it. The original owner was Arthur Hamilton. The building was purchased by the Royal Institution for the Advancement of Learning in 1974.听

The building is located on Pine Avenue, on the south side of Mount Royal. The main entrance, however, is on the west fa莽ade. The exterior walls are all covered in red clay bricks with architectural elements made of limestone.

The building at 1140 Pine Avenue retains most of its original qualities, both inside and out. The interior has been only slightly modified to meet its new functions.
