A mandatory online sexual violence education program for the entire community.

Program overview

On January 30, 2023, 捆绑SM社区 relaunched a completely updated version of It Takes All of Us.

It Takes All of Us is a learning program that strives to increase awareness of sexual violence, to ensure that our campus culture is based on respect and consent, and to help create a community free of sexual violence. It consists of five modules that use character-driven scenarios to teach important topics surrounding sexual violence and its impact. All staff, faculty, and students complete the same version of the program.

As part of 捆绑SM社区鈥檚听 and in accordance with ,听it is important for anyone who studies or works at 捆绑SM社区 to have a shared understanding of the key concepts around preventing sexual violence on our campus. Because of the substantial changes made to the program, all members of the 捆绑SM社区 community are required to take this updated version of It Takes All of Us.

Access and completion dates

All 捆绑SM社区 community members鈥攕tudents, staff, and faculty鈥攁re enrolled in the new version of the program, regardless of whether or not they have completed a previous version, at 捆绑SM社区 or another institution. Use the chart below to find your approximate date of access and completion date.听

Before starting the program

How long does the program take?

On average, the program takes about 60 minutes to complete.

What if I鈥檓 feeling distressed or overwhelmed by the thought of doing the program?

Who must complete the program?

This program is mandatory for everyone at 捆绑SM社区, including all students, staff, and faculty.

I think I completed this course already; do I have to complete it again?

In January of 2023, a new version of 鈥淚t Takes All of Us鈥 was rolled out on myCourses and is required by all students, staff, and faculty to complete. Even if you completed previous versions of the course, you are still required to take the most current version which is available on myCourses.

Why do I have to complete the program?

, requires every post-secondary institution in Quebec (universities and CEGEPs) to provide sexual violence education and awareness training by law. At 捆绑SM社区, we see this program as one step towards enhancing individual and collective awareness and understanding sexual violence, which is essential to our campus-wide work on sexual violence prevention and response.

What happens if I don't complete the program?

Students who have not completed the program by the applicable deadline will have a hold placed on their account in Minerva, preventing them from registering for their next term; the hold will be removed within 2 business days of completing the program.

Staff and faculty must complete the program by the applicable deadline. Those who do not will receive regular reminders and can be requested to report on completion in their annual activity reports.

Note that any student, staff, or faculty member who requires an accommodation will still receive a completion record to avoid having to disclose the accommodation.

Does everyone complete the same program?

Yes, All 捆绑SM社区 community members complete the same program. There are no longer separate versions for students and employees.

Do I have to take the program twice if I am both a student and employee?

No, since there is only one version of the program, you only need to complete the program once.

How do I access the program?

The program is hosted on myCourses, 捆绑SM社区鈥檚 online Learning Management System. To access the program, log in to myCourses using your 捆绑SM社区 credentials (i.e., your email and password). If you don鈥檛 see the program, make sure you click 鈥淰iew All Courses鈥 and search 鈥淚t Takes All of Us.鈥

Is there a best way to view the program?

While you can complete the program on a PC, laptop, or mobile device, we recommend using a laptop or PC (as opposed to a mobile device) via Google Chrome.

I have previously completed sexual violence training at Concordia University or another educational institution. Do I also have to complete the program at 捆绑SM社区?

While another institution鈥檚 training might be similar to that of 捆绑SM社区, there are important differences in the explanation of 捆绑SM社区鈥檚 policies, reporting mechanisms, and resources for supporting survivors of sexual violence. For that reason, you must complete 捆绑SM社区鈥檚 version of the online training even if you have completed the one offered by Concordia or another educational institution.

I am a Quebec inter-university transfer student (CREPUQ); do I still need to complete the training?

No, Quebec inter-university transfer students are exempt from having to complete the program at 捆绑SM社区 because they are required to complete training at their home university.

Where can I access a computer on campus so I can complete the modules?

捆绑SM社区 Library offers over 600 computer workstations throughout the Library system for use by 捆绑SM社区 students, faculty and staff; visit this page for more details: /library/services/computers. For specific computer access needs, please email osvrse [at] mcgill.ca.

Do I have to complete the course in English and in French?

No, you only need to complete one version of the course in the language you are most comfortable with. You can select either the English or French course on the homepage in myCourses.

I am supposed to have access to the program, but I am unable to locate the program on myCourses. What do I do?

In myCourses, make sure you click 鈥淰iew All Courses鈥 and search 鈥淚t Takes All of Us.鈥 If you still don鈥檛 see it or don鈥檛 have access to myCourses email osvrse [at] mcgill.ca with your 捆绑SM社区 ID and a description of the issue.

What if I鈥檓 feeling distressed or overwhelmed by the content of the program?

If you have been impacted by sexual violence, know that you are not alone. If you need confidential support or an accommodation to complete this training, don鈥檛 hesitate to reach out to the Office for Sexual Violence Response, Support and Education (OSVRSE) at osvrse [at] mcgill.ca or 514-398-3954.

If you feel like you need to catch your breath before reaching out to someone, you can always click the 鈥淭ake a break鈥 icon and let yourself be guided through a calming breathing technique.

You can also click the 鈥淣eed support鈥 icon for a list of 24/7 resources available, as well as the resources on campus.

What is the 鈥淭ake a break鈥 icon and when can I use it?

You can click on the 鈥淭ake a break鈥 icon at any point during training to be guided through a 5-5 breathing technique if you鈥檙e feeling overwhelmed or just need a break It will open in a separate window, it won鈥檛 affect your progress, and it鈥檚 a great way to pause and ground yourself while reviewing the content of the program.

Can I pause or exit the program at any time?

Yes! So long as you access and work through the program while connected to the internet, your progress will always be saved so you can pick up where you left off the next time you open the program.

How do I attain a 鈥渃omplete鈥 for the program?

There are five modules in the program. A learning check will appear at the end of each module. You will notice it says 鈥渜uiz鈥, but don鈥檛 worry! It鈥檚 simply our way of ensuring you work through all five modules of the training. Remember, the point of the learning checks is less about getting it right the first time and more about understanding why a response is the right one.

To achieve a 鈥渃omplete鈥 for the training, follow these steps:

  1. Review every section of each module to get to the learning check.

  1. Answer all four questions of the learning check for each five modules.鈥

  1. Click 鈥渟ubmit quiz.鈥濃

  1. Once the quiz is submitted, review the feedback under each question before continuing to the next module to find whether your response was correct and why.

How do I turn on closed captioning on videos?

To enable closed captions when viewing videos, click the gear button at the bottom right of the video, select "Captions" and click "en-CA (CC)". Once enabled, all videos in the program will automatically start with captions on.

How do I change the interface language in myCourses to French/English?

In addition to choosing an English or French version of the program, you can also set the myCourses interface (such as quiz buttons) in either official language via your account settings. Note that this preference will be applied throughout myCourses.

To change your language setting, click your name at the top right of myCourses, select 鈥淎ccount Settings鈥. Under 鈥淟ocale & Language鈥, select your preferred language to display in myCourses.

I don鈥檛 see checkmarks next to the 鈥淲elcome/Quick Guide鈥 module even though I completed it; will this affect my completion of the program?

While it does contain important information about the training and how to navigate it, viewing the 鈥淲elcome / Quick Guide鈥 is not required for the completion of the program (i.e., checkmarks in 鈥淐ontent鈥 are not required). Only the completion of Modules 1-5, the five learning checks, and Conclusion is required.

How will I know if I have completed the program?

If you have fully completed the program, you should see the Program completion page appear in the Conclusion module, which is set to release once you have completed all Learning Checks:

Will I receive proof of completion for my records?

If you have fully completed the program, you will also receive an automated confirmation email within 1-2 business days confirming your program completion. If you do not see the confirmation email, please check your spam inbox folder to ensure that the email has not landed there.

If you have not received this email after 2 business days, please reach out to osvrse [at] mcgill.ca to ensure that your completion has been recorded.

I am a student and the Minerva "View Holds and Warnings" page says that I have a "UG-Acad Integrity Tutorial Hold". I already completed the It Takes All of Us program. What does this mean?

This message indicates that you have not yet completed the Academic Integrity Tutorial (AIT). The AIT has no affiliation with the It Takes All of Us program; it is a separate mandatory online program for students. To release the hold on your record related to the AIT, please complete the AIT in Minerva (under 鈥淪tudent Menu鈥).

I have completed the program and want to learn more about sexual violence.

The Office for Sexual Violence Response, Support and Education (OSVRSE) offers educational workshops that provide tools to interrupt potentially harmful situations and support survivors of sexual violence. To learn more about the workshops, register, or request a tailored session for your unit or group, visit the OSVRSE webpage on workshops or email osvrse [at] mcgill.ca.

Our Shared Spaces began as an initiative put forward by a group of Floor Fellows with the goal of creating spaces for discussion around issues affecting their communities. Over the years and with the support of various community partners, the program has grown into an educational workshop series that creates spaces in which students are empowered to foster inclusive and equitable living and learning environments on campus. By holding space for respectful dialogue, Our Shared Spaces supports student development and affirms the plurality of student experiences of campus life.

The (SACOMSS) is a volunteer-run organization committed to supporting survivors of sexual assault and their allies through direct support, advocacy, and outreach.

Their services include鈥,鈥,鈥, and鈥. Additionally, they offer sexual assault sensitivity training to 捆绑SM社区 and Montreal groups, provide information and referrals, and organize events to raise awareness about sexual assault.

I've witnessed a situation that I don't know how to handle. What can I do?

As a witness and/or support person, you can contact the Office for Sexual Violence Response, Support and Education (OSVRSE) for information and support. To learn more about how to be an active bystander and/or provide support to someone after a situation occurs, visit the OSVRSE webpage on supporting survivors.

How do I report an incident of sexual violence?

To report an incident of sexual violence, you can contact the Office for Mediation and Reporting. To file a formal report of discrimination, harassment, or sexual violence; learn about policies and processes; or be connected to additional supports, book a consultation through their website.

Where can I find support?

There are many places at 捆绑SM社区 where you can find support. For support services and resources, visit our resource page.

I am a 捆绑SM社区 employee; how am I compensated for this training?

Employees are expected to complete the program as part of their regular workload and responsibilities. Employees who are usually submitting a timesheet in order to be paid will be allocated one (1) hour to complete the online training. This should be identified as "It Takes All of Us 鈥 Staff".

If you are a course lecturer or an invigilator, you will be automatically compensated one (1) hour of pay following your completion of the training.

This does not apply to students who take on a staff role during their studies, since they are already required to complete the program as a student.

I am a 捆绑SM社区 employee who is paid hourly; how much am I compensated for the training?

Employees will be compensated at their regular hourly rate of work or at the rate specified in their respective collective agreement.
