Canada is hosting the conference in Vancouver June 3-6. This is the world’s largest conference on the health, rights and wellbeing of girls and women. While Canada is a leader on #genderequality, there is still more work to do!
In response to this opportunity and responsibility, the ISON has joined the Women Deliver 2019 mobilizers. The Women Deliver mobilization is a pan-Canadian movement consisting of over 130 organizations from coast to coast to coast. The collective goal is to create momentum towards real and lasting changes for girls/women in relation to three main themes: gender responsive health systems, gender-based violence and women’s economic empowerment. Each mobilizer organization has one key contact person: for the ISoN that is Cheryl Armistead.
What does this mean for you? While individuals cannot register as mobilizers, your personal and collective action matters! We encourage you to take action around any or all of the three mobilizer themes. Do something big or small for International Women’s Day on March 8, and then continue the momentum leading up to and beyond June. Of particular note is the upcoming Month of Action (Mother’s Day to the Women Deliver 2019 conference in June). Host an event, get engaged via social media, write an Op-Ed or a blog, hold focused dialogue or panel in your classes or on your professional unit about girls and women’s health and equity. Next, link your action explicitly to the Women Deliver 2019 mobilization by using #WeDeliver2019/#Délivrons2019 social media hashtags and Women Deliver 2019 logo during your events, and to the ISoN by informing Cheryl of all your contributions. Send a brief description of your event and the key theme you addressed. This way we can capture our collective contributions to this important wave of grassroots political action and advocacy on behalf of girls’/women’s equity across the globe.
