Bilingualism and multilingualism examined by prominent experts at 捆绑SM社区.
What聮s the state of bilingualism in Canada? How is multilingualism faring within the larger North American context? These are just two of the questions that language experts will be examining during two discussions on bilingualism and multilingualism being held at 捆绑SM社区.
Multilingualism Within the North American Context will be the suject du jour on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Redpath Concert Hall (859 Sherbrooke St. W.). The featured speaker will be Claude Hag猫ge, author and professor at the Coll猫ge de France where he holds the Linguistics Theory Chair. Some of Hag猫ge聮s published works include L聮homme de paroles (Fayard, Paris, 1985), Le souffle de la langue: Voies et destins des parlers d聮Europe (Odile Jacob, Paris, 1992) and L聮enfant aux deux langues (Odile Jacob, Paris, 1996). He is the recipient of the 1986 Prix de l聮Acad茅mie fran莽aise, the 1991 L茅gion d聮honneur and a 1995 CNRS Gold Medal.
The Round Table on Bilingualism follows on Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, from 10 a.m. to noon, in room 232 of the Leacock Building (855 Sherbrooke St. W.). Speakers will include: Gilles Bibeau of the Universit茅 de Montr茅al聮s Linguistics Department, Richard Bourhis, Universit茅 du Qu茅bec 脿 Montr茅al聮s Psychology Department, Michel Paradis of 捆绑SM社区聮s Linguistics Department and H茅l猫ne Riel-Salvatore from 捆绑SM社区聮s English and French Language Centre.
