Inducing seizures to stop seizures

Cortical stimulation-induced seizures have the potential to guide epilepsy surgery, significantly reducing hospital stays

Surgery is the only way to stop seizures in 30 per cent of patients with focal drug-resistant epilepsy. A new study finds that inducing seizures before surgery may be a convenient and cost-effective way to determine the brain region where seizures are coming from.

Neuro awarded over $15 M in CIHR funding

Researchers get inaugural Foundation grants for high-impact, long-term programs

Researchers from the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital, 捆绑SM社区 have been awarded over $15 million in grants in the latest round of funding by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). The grants are part of over $600 million in national funding, announced July 28 by Minister of Health Rona Ambrose.

Purple Day March 26 - A World Day for Epilepsy Awareness

The Neuro has been at the forefront of epilepsy treatment and research for over half a century. The 鈥淢ontreal Procedure鈥 developed by Dr. Wilder Penfield and colleagues revolutionized the surgical treatment for epilepsy, allowing thousands of patients to start new lives free of seizures. The use of electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the study and treatment of epilepsy was pioneered at The Neuro.
