Health and Holidays

During this unique holiday season itis more important than ever to ensure that we stay healthy and connected. Here are a few tips to prepare you and your team for a holiday season like no other.

  1. Manage expectations – From hosting parties to gift-giving, many of us have high expectations during this season. But living in unprecedented circumstances requires us to re-evaluate our expectations and remain realistic on what we are capable of. Having conversations with loved ones can help manage expectations and reduce stress in order to fully enjoy this season.

  1. Create a plan – Planning ahead can help determine what is realistic and what can be kept off this season’s “To Do” list. Creating a budget and sticking to it can help support your financial wellness. Check out the Health and Wellbeing resources on other ways to support your Financial Wellness.

  1. Finding moments of connection – You might also want to create a connection plan to help you reach out to family and friends by post, email, phone, or over Zoom. Send out holiday cards, invite friends and family to an online gathering for some holiday cheer, and share the holiday anticipation with an email advent calendar sharing holiday stories, photos, videos, and recipes in the lead up to the holidays. Whichever way you choose to connect, it can have a great impact on the health and wellbeing of yourself and all the people that you connect with.

  1. Get Outdoors – As the cold weather sets in, it is important that we continue to enjoy the outdoors. Get some sun before the workday starts and during your lunch break or go outside after work to admire the holiday lights in your neighbourhood. Set your routines now to help maintain healthy habits for the rest of the winter.

  1. Celebrate with your Team – Now is the time to be planning unit or team end of year celebrations.Pick a time and date that works for everyone and organize a fun and festive online get together for your team . You may want to ask attendees to wear their favourite cozy sweater, prepare a holiday background, decorate your surroundings for others to enjoy, or prepare games to be played virtually. Get creative!

  1. Reach out if you need support – If you find that things become difficult during the holidays, be sure to reach out to a friend, a colleague, or to the Employee and Family Assistance Program. Check out the Employee and Family Assistance Program website for more information and read the highlights of recently-announced updates to the program.
