McIntyre Medical Sciences Building Update – 2nd, 5th and 6th Floors to re-open September 4
To all members of the Faculty of Medicine,
With the new academic year set to begin in earnest, I am pleased to report a great deal of progress has been made with respect to remediation efforts at the McIntyre Building following the July 13 fire. I take this opportunity to thank the University’s Project Review team who have taken over the reins from the Emergency Operations Committee and who continue their meticulous work to minimize disruptions to our community.
Please take note of the following updates:
Building Access:
As of the morning of September 4, entrance to the building will be accessible via the ground floor main entrance, the 5th floor Pine street entrance and the 6th floor entrance. The elevators will be reprogrammed, providing access to all open floors. People accessing the building are asked to respect posted signage and refrain from accessing construction zones.
5th and 6th Floor Amphitheatres and 2nd Floor Classrooms:
These rooms will re-open on September 4.
Work in the 5th and 6th floor amphitheatres and the 2nd floor Cybermed classrooms, including cleaning and efforts by À¦°óSMÉçÇø’s Network and Communication Services group and MedIT to ensure audio-visual and technical equipment is fully functional, is now nearing completion.
1st Floor Labs:
Remediation work continues in the labs located on the 1st floor. The expectation is that researchers should be able to return to these labs later in September.
3rd and 4th Floors:
Work continues with respect to the 3rd and 4th floors.
Mechanical Systems:
Main mechanical systems on the lower floors, including HVAC systems, have been turned back on and areas requiring reconstruction on floors 1, 5, 6 and 7 are now all segregated. For some small areas of the re-opened floors the ventilation will return the following week, though this will not compromise use of the main rooms.
Cafeteria:
Please note that while the aforementioned classrooms, amphitheatres and labs are expected to re-open shortly, the McIntyre cafeteria will remain closed until further notice. In the interim the vending machines on the 5th floor will be fully stocked and occupants are encouraged to take advantage of food service locations in the nearby area.
A map of food services on campus is available here.
I would like to wish everyone an enjoyable long weekend and a wonderful beginning to the 2018-2019 academic year.
Sincerely,
David Eidelman, MDCM
