Institute in the news: recent highlights

From treating cancer patients during the pandemic to advancing augmented reality headsets in the anatomy lab, Institute members are making headlines.

Here are some highlights over the past five months.

Drs. Ilana Bank, Fraser Moore and Geoffroy No毛l recently received the 2020 Canadian Association of Medical Education (CAME) Certificate of Merit.

Fraser Moore, Susanne Mak and Geoffroy No毛l take readers on their journey through the complex and wonderful world of health sciences education, offering insights for newcomers and veterans to the field alike.


Lily Nguyen is part of the Operating Room (OR) team at the Montreal Children鈥檚 Hospital, who were awarded the Excellence in Care Prize from the F茅d茅ration des m茅decins specialistes (FMSQ) during its 12th annual Interdisciplinary Educational Day (IED) on November 15, 2019. The prize honors innovative and interdisciplinary projects that have contributed to improving access, efficiency and quality and safety of care.


Geoffroy No毛l has deployed augmented reality technology in the anatomy lab with the goal of improving the quality of training for surgeons, dentists and other health professionals. The early results are promising.


Peter Nugus created and led an important forum on linking health care and social care for older people. This article was shared widely by national and international leaders in the field in light of the global pandemic and its disproportionate impact on elder and lower-income communities.


Librarian and Associate Member of the Institute, Andrea Quaiattini (liaison for Post-Graduate Medical Education, medical specialities, IHSE, Indigenous health) shared useful insights during an Institute members鈥 meeting earlier this academic year.


A Faculty member of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, David Ragsdale went from an initial teaching load of 25 hours for the academic year to over 200 hours in 14 different classes.


How can we do better as a community? Students, faculty, community members and alumni gathered for the inaugural community campus exchange organized by the Community Health and Social Medicine Incubator (CHASM) and the 捆绑SM社区 Faculty of Medicine鈥檚 Social Accountability and Community Engagement (SACE) office. Saleem Razack is Director of SACE and participated in the event.


Robert Sternszus and Stuart Lubarsky successfully completed the second iteration of their Foundations in Medical and Health Sciences Education elective this academic year. Students developed curricula proposals with real-world potential, some of which are being considered for integration into academic programing.
