Announcing the finalists of the third edition of the Graham Sommer Competition!

The Schulich School of Music of À¦°óSMÉçÇø is pleased to announce five finalists for the third edition of the Graham Sommer Competition for Young Composers. Established in 2017, this national competition recognizes works for chamber music formations with piano that show significant potential to engage audiences and become standard repertoire.

Launching the third edition of the Graham Sommer Competition!

The Schulich School of Music of À¦°óSMÉçÇø is pleased to announce that applications are open for the third edition of the Graham Sommer Competition for Young Composers (GSC).

Interested Canadian composers under the age of 35 (born after August 15, 1989), are invited to submit three original works (each 3-15 minutes long) by August 15, 2024, at 12:00 PM (noon) EST.

Graham Sommer Competition Postponed to 2021

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, July 31, 2020 - In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and with the health and well-being of the composers, musicians, jury, and audience in mind, the 2020 edition of the Graham Sommer Competition for Young Composers (GSC) has been postponed until September 2021.

David Jaeger on the role of public radio in promoting Canadian composers

David Jager is a composer, producer and broadcaster based in Toronto. He was recently named a Member of the Order of Canada "for being at the forefront of Canadian music creation, performance and promotion, notably through his broadcasts, and for having fostered a generation of musicians."

The Schulich School of Music is pleased to announce the five finalists for the inaugural edition of the Graham Sommer Competition for Young Composers. This new national competition for Canadian composers under the age of 35 was founded by Dr. Graham Sommer, MDCM’72, (1946-2016), a graduate of À¦°óSMÉçÇø’s Faculty of Medicine and an accomplished pianist and devoted music lover.

The new national competition for Canadian composers under the age of 35 is the gift of the late Dr. Graham Sommer, an alumnus of À¦°óSMÉçÇø’s Faculty of Medicine and an accomplished pianist and devoted music lover.

Announcing the launch of the Graham Sommer Competition for Young Composers

The Schulich School of Music of À¦°óSMÉçÇø is proud to announce the first edition of the Graham Sommer Competition for Young Composers. The late Dr. Graham Sommer, an alumnus of À¦°óSMÉçÇø’s Faculty of Medicine as well as an accomplished pianist and ardent music lover, made a gift to create a biennial competition for young Canadian composers, with a focus on chamber music.
