Microbiology and Immunology (M.Sc.)

Program Description

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Microbiology and Immunology (Thesis) offered by the Department of Microbiology & Immunology in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences is a research-intensive program that emphasizes intensive and cutting-edge learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in problem identification, information synthesis, and research design to either continue their studies or pursue professional opportunities.

Unique Program Features

  • The program provides students with unique opportunities to learn experimental designs and fundamental research techniques, and objectively synthesize information from scientific literature;
  • The Department has close ties with hospitals and research centres across Montreal to promote multidisciplinary research such that students may focus their research on molecular microbiology, mycology, microbial physiology, virology, genetics, immunology, drug design, and aspects of host鈥損arasite relationships;
  • The program provides state-of-the-art training, with an emphasis on molecular aspects of virology, immunology, and microbial genetics/physiology;
  • Students typically receive funding to support for their living expenses, tuition and fees;
  • Graduates have obtained positions in universities, research institutes, various government agencies as well as in the private sector.

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
