Kinesiology & Physical Education (M.A.)

Program Description

The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Kinesiology and Physical Education offered by the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education in the Faculty of Education is a research-intensive program that emphasizes cutting-edge and enriching learning opportunities. The program鈥檚 objective is to equip students with skills in intellectual curiosity, scientific research, and communication skills to either continue their studies or pursue professional opportunities.

Unique Program Features

  • The program is grouped into three main research streams: Physical & Health Education, Sports Sociology, and Cultural Education; Adapted Physical Activity; Sport & Exercise Physiology;
  • The Physical Health Education research stream is primarily concerned with the study of physical and health education programming, physical education teacher experiences, curriculum studies, and teacher education. The Sports Sociology and Cultural Education stream is primarily concerned with the sociocultural study of sport, recreation, and leisure across a variety of contexts;
  • This Adapted Physical Activity stream touches upon physical activity and sport participation of people living with one or multiple disabilities, including developmental, emotional, intellectual, and/or physical;
  • The Sport and Exercise Psychology stream involves the scientific study of people and their behaviours in sport and exercise contexts and the practical applications of that knowledge;
  • Strong interest for research partnerships with Indigenous, working class, and/or marginalized sport communities and attempts to focus on how sport & physical activity can be used to foster community wellbeing.

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
