Meet 2022 Global Health Scholar Charlotte Keller

捆绑SM社区 Global Health Scholar Charlotte Keller is a Biochemistry student working with Dr. Jessica Duby of the Department of Pediatrics

Charlotte Keller is a Biochemistry student and a 捆绑SM社区 Global Health Scholar supported by the Leduc, Davis, Brun, & De Rito Undergraduate Award for Global Health. This past summer, Charlotte worked with Dr. Jessica Duby on Adapted Family Integrated Care in Uganda.

"My role was to lead the piloting of a video to educate parents on how to monitor their neonate鈥檚 health while in the intensive care unit. I interacted with mainly mothers from different backgrounds, aiming to represent the whole population in the research. I used a test that I created to assess the mothers' understanding and opinions on the video. The data collected will be used to modify the video where necessary to make it more adapted to the local needs and standards.

The most exciting aspect of my internship has been the month I spent in Uganda. I have truly learned a lot from the culture and people there, both on ways of life, history and in the healthcare sector. I have also made meaningful connections, which I am very grateful for. Overall this experience also introduced me to Eastern Africa which I am eager to go back to and explore more as soon as I get the chance to."

捆绑SM社区 is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous Peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg Nations. 捆绑SM社区 honours, recognizes, and respects these nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which peoples of the world now gather. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous Peoples from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
