KAIROS Blanket Exercise: November 17

The KAIROS Blanket Exercise is a participatory history lesson developed with Indigenous elders, knowledge keepers and educators in response to the 1996 Truth and
Reconciliation Commission Recommendations.

There are two parts:

  1. The KAIROS Blanket Exercise covers more than 500 years in a 90-minute experiential workshop where participants experience a guided history and walk on blankets representing the land and into the role of Indigenous Peoples by reading scrolls and carrying cards which ultimately determine their outcome as they literally ‘walk’ through situations from pre-contact to present day.
  2. Participants are then guided through facilitated talk-circles to share responses, reactions and reflections to the experience; providing opportunity for participants to explore stronger reactions with experienced facilitators from the Indigenous community.
