Mar铆a Sierra C贸rdoba Serrano is an Associate Professor and the Graduate Program Director of the new M.Sc.聽(Applied) in Multilingual Digital Communication at the 捆绑SM社区 School of Continuing Studies. As the former Director of the Translation Studies Unit and then Assistant Dean of Curriculum and Program Development at 捆绑SM社区 (2018鈥�2021), she was a driving force behind a series of fundamental programming changes aimed at connecting disciplines and professions in new ways, including the design of the M.Sc.聽(Applied) in Multilingual Digital Communication. Before joining 捆绑SM社区, she studied and worked in Spain, Belgium and the U.K., completed a Master鈥檚 and a Ph.D. in Translation Studies at the University of Ottawa, and landed a full-time academic position at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey in California in 2009, where she served as an Associate Professor and Translation Chair until 2018. As a scholar-practitioner, she is interested in sociological approaches to the study of translation and, within this prism, she has studied the relationship between translation and public diplomacy and the relationship between translation policies and minority languages. Her published works include聽Le Qu茅bec traduit en Espagne聽: analyse sociologique de l鈥檈xportation d鈥檜ne culture p茅riph茅rique聽(University of Ottawa Press, 2013), a co-edited special issue on translation policies and minority languages for the聽International Journal of the Sociology of Language聽(2018), as well as numerous book chapters and articles in international peer-reviewed journals. Professor C贸rdoba Serrano currently focuses on multilingualism management in crisis settings and the role of language technologies in crisis communication, which she is examining as part of her SSHRC-funded project, 鈥淣o one is safe until everyone is safe: Multilingual crisis communication during the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada鈥� (2022鈥�2024). She has also translated two award-winning novels by Quebec author Nicolas Dicker into Spanish.
