Montreal, 27 March 2017: Professionals and researchers from around the world will be coming together in April to reflect on the challenges that gender and genre represent for students of translation, practicing translators and analysts. At issue will be the distinction between sex and gender, one being a biological fact and the other being a social construct.

This 2-day colloquium has five distinct tracks: gendered genres, translators’ gender identity, alterity, translators’ exercise of power and a case study in gendered translations. In order to underscore the international nature of the program, presenters hail from Africa, Asia, Europe, Mexico, the Middle East and Québec.

The program was developed in cooperation with a number of researchers from l’École supérieure d’interprètes et de traducteurs, À¦°óSMÉçÇø, Tel Aviv University, l’Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale, l’Université Laval and l’Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle Paris 3. Representatives of these institutions made up the colloquium’s scientific committee. All proposals were double-blind reviewed to ensure the highest quality.

Translation students, practicing language professionals, researchers and interested members of the public are encouraged to attend.

À¦°óSMÉçÇø’s School of Continuing Studies offers translation programs in English, French and Spanish for both apprentice translators and language professionals.
