Recent gifts to Faculty of Law total more than $4.7-million
惭肠骋颈濒濒鈥檚 Faculty of Law has received more than $4.7-million in philanthropic gifts since the beginning of September, just as the University enters the 2nd year of Campaign 捆绑SM社区: History in the Making. This means the Faculty has raised more than $17-million since 捆绑SM社区 launched its largest-ever fundraising drive in October 2007 鈥 nearly half-way toward its goal of $35,130,000. Dean of Law Nicholas Kasirer says he is extremely thankful to all of the individuals and foundations that have donated to the Faculty in recent months, and throughout Campaign 捆绑SM社区.
鈥淲e have always relied on the generosity of our loyal alumni and friends, but in potentially difficult times it is especially critical for great institutions such as 惭肠骋颈濒濒鈥檚 Faculty of Law to have the resources to foster young minds,鈥 said Kasirer. 鈥淭he fact that so many alumni have stepped up gives us all the more reason to celebrate because it shows that they understand education is truly the best way to invest in our future.鈥
Some of the recent gifts to the Faculty of Law
- $3 million from aluminium giant Rio Tinto Alcan to create the L. Yves Fortier Chair in International Arbitration and International Commercial Law
- $800,000 to create the Erin J.C. Arsenault Fellowship in Space Governance
- $250,000 from L. Yves Fortier to establish an entrance scholarship and endowed support for the Brierley Memorial Lectures
- $125,000 from the Nussia & Andr茅 Aisenstadt Foundation to support human rights research
- $100,000 from Teruko Sekiguchi to establish The Professor Masao Sekiguchi Fellowship in Air and Space Law
- $65,000 from the Faculty of Law Class of 鈥58 and the family of former law professor and Supreme Court judge Gerald Le Dain, to establish the Gerald Le Dain fund in Constitutional Law supporting student activities
- $25,000 from Calgary-based lawyer and 捆绑SM社区 law grad Bryan Haynes to enable students from outside Quebec to work at the Quebec Research Centre of Private & Comparative Law

Campaign 捆绑SM社区: History in the Making was publicly launched in October 2007, and will run until the end of 2012. Its $750 million goal was the largest starting goal in the history of Canadian university fundraising drives.
