À¦°óSMÉçÇø Reproductive Centre announces new graduate student fellowship
It is with great pleasure that the À¦°óSMÉçÇø Reproductive Centre of the MUHC announces the creation of a Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine, in memory of the late Charles W. McDougall — former Associate Executive Director of the Montreal General and Royal Victoria Hospitals — whose perseverance and hard work played a key role in the establishment of the À¦°óSMÉçÇø Reproductive Centre.
"When I have the good fortune to advise a patient that she is pregnant, I sometimes think of Charles and the satisfaction that he would derive from such a joyous association," says Dr Seang Lin Tan, Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at À¦°óSMÉçÇø and Director of the À¦°óSMÉçÇø Reproductive Centre at the MUHC. "If it were not for Charles, we sincerely do not believe that there would be an IVF program at the MUHC — his foresight resulted in a world-class program, which has many success stories." Charles McDougall's keen intelligence, problem-solving and analytic abilities, creativity, transparency, sense of humour and dedication will be long remembered.
The fellowship provides support for graduate physicians or scientists in training who are intending to pursue a career in reproductive medicine. The first recipient of the Charles W. McDougall Fellowship is Dr Ezgi Demirtas from Ankara, Turkey, who started her two-year fellowship at the À¦°óSMÉçÇø Reproductive Centre on July 1, 2005.
"Fellowships like these are the best way to commemorate those who contribute to the positive international reputation of the MUHC, while attracting and supporting talented new health professionals," says Dr Arthur T. Porter, Director General and CEO of the MUHC.
The Charles W. McDougall Fellowship is the seventh established at the MRC since 1997. Other fellowships include:
Brian Little Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine (established in 1997)
Robert Kinch Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology (established in 1998)
Robert Usher Fellowship in Perinatology (established in 1998)
Frederick Naftolin Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine (established in 1998)
Women's Health Fellowships in Reproductive Medicine (two, established in 2004)
