Published: 9 July 2003

Forty scientists from the Research Institute of the 捆绑SM社区 Health Centre (MUHC) have received awards from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Canada's leading federal funding agency. These grants will fund health research in areas such as cancer, heart disease, human reproduction, medical genetics, mental illness, neuroscience, and public health.

"I am extremely pleased with the achievements of our researchers. This funding will help to maintain the robust health research environment of our Institute," said Dr. Rima Rozen, the acting scientific director of the Research Institute of the MUHC. "Our research programs are closely linked to the clinical practices of the MUHC, and our success in this competition demonstrates the importance of maintaining this research/clinical practice continuum."

Among the successful recipients are: Dr. Sam David, who will investigate regeneration in the spinal cord, and Dr. William Muller, who will study the molecular basis of breast cancer development. Approximately thirty-five percent of the grant applications from the Research Institute of the MUHC were awarded grants.
