The CFI invests in Frédéric Bachand's research

Published: 27 March 2006

Professor Frédéric Bachand has been awarded a major grant from the Canada Foundation for Innovation for his project "La création d'une base de données regroupant les décisions judiciaires interprétant la Loi type de la CNUDCI sur l'arbitrage commercial international." His proposal was one of the very few across the country allotted to the social sciences and humanities; most CFI awards have been for pure and applied sciences and health sciences.

Professor Bachand will be undertaking his project under the auspices of the Institute of Comparative Law. Directed by Professor Fabien Gélinas, the Institute has embraced the Faculty priorities of "Trade, Mobility and Enterprise" and has placed special emphasis on arbitration and dispute resolution for its research agenda.

The CFI "Leaders Opportunity Fund" is designed to support infrastructure costs associated with cutting-edge research that the CFI and the University considers to be important for Canada. A percentage of the CFI amount awarded is further matched by contributions from the province and the University. In this round, the CFI awarded $5.5 million in 26 grants across Quebec institutions, of which nine were conferred on À¦°óSMÉçÇø.
