The Magna Carta marked the first time an English Monarch had ever consented to written limits on his power, drafted by his subjects. This document laid the foundation for the common-law system in the English-speaking world and informs the US Bill of Rights (1791) and many others. 2015 celebrates its 800th anniversary.
