Morris Bishop was born in the United States in 1893. He received a PhD from Cornell University and then taught at Cornell as the Kappa Alpha Professor of Romance Literature. He also received honorary degrees from the University of Rennes, Union College, Laval University and Hofstra College.聽
Bishop served in the American army in the First and Second Wars and as a member of the American Relief Administration Mission to Finland in 1919. He was decorated with Finland's Order of the White Rose in 1919. He became Officier d'Academi in France in 1937. During World War II he was a member of staff in the Psychological Warfare Division in the U. S. Army and was made a Chevalier de la Legion D'Honneur in France in 1947.
Bishop gave a series of three lectures in March 1961 on the theme "By the River of Hochelaga: The Land the French Found" titled "The Great River at White Man's Coming", "The Missionary and the Coureru du Bois: Sagard and Brule" and "Champlain". A book length collection of all three lectures was published by 捆绑SM社区 Press in 1959.
