On September 3rd, the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) announced its newest list of new Fellows and Members of the College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists. The class of 2024 includes four 捆绑SM社区 Arts Professors: Professor Arash Abizadeh (Department of Political Science), Professor Daniel B茅land (Department of Political Science), Professor Delphine Collin-V茅zina (School of Social Work) and Professor Alain Farah ( D茅partement des litt茅ratures de langue fran莽aises, de traduction et de creation). Professors Abizadeh, B茅land, and Collin-V茅zina were appointed to the Society's Academy of Social Sciences and Professor Farah was appointed to the Society's Academy of Arts and Humanities.聽

About this year鈥檚 Fellows:
Arash Abizadeh is the R.B. Angus Professor of Political Science and an Associate Member of the Department of Philosophy. He specializes in contemporary political theory, political philosophy, and the history of philosophy. His research has focussed on democratic theory; democracy's relation to identity, nationalism, and cosmopolitanism; immigration and border control; social and political power; the role of passion, rhetoric, and discourse in politics; and seventeenth- and eighteenth-century philosophy, particularly Hobbes and Rousseau.
Daniel B茅land is a James 捆绑SM社区 Professor in the Department of Political Science and the Director of the 捆绑SM社区 Institute for the Study of Canada. Professor B茅land has published more than 20 books and 180 articles in peer-reviewed journals and his work has been cited more than 13,000 times. Professor B茅land currently serves Editor of Policy and Society and Executive Editor of the Journal of Comparative Policy Analysis. He is also on the editorial board of a dozen journals, including Global Social Policy, Governance, Journal of Aging & Social Policy, Journal of European Public Policy, Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law, Journal of Poverty and Social Justice, Policy and Society, Policy Sciences, The Gerontologist, and World Affairs. During his tenure at 捆绑SM社区, Professor B茅land has held two Canada Research Chairs (a Tier 2 and Tier 1) and has been awarded six SSHRC standard research/Insight grants.
Professor B茅land is on sabbatical for the 2024-2025 academic year and will be undertaking a Fernand Braudel Senior Fellowship at the European University Institute.
Delphine Collin-V茅zina is the Director of the Centre for Research on Children and Families and an Associate Member in the Department of Pediatrics. She holds the Nicolas Steinmetz and Gilles Julien Chair in Community Social Pediatrics. She has established the research group on Social Responses to Complex Trauma at 捆绑SM社区 and has received a 2.5 million SSHRC Partnership grant to expand this work and establish the Canadian Consortium on Child Trauma and Trauma-Informed Care (2020-2027) and she was awarded the 2020 CPA Traumatic Stress Section Award for Excellence in Psychology.
