Saucier + Perrotte and Atelier TAG / Jodoin Lamarre Pratte win 2018 Governor General鈥檚 Awards in Architecture

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) and the Canada Council for the Arts have the recipients of the Governor General鈥檚 Medals in Architecture.聽 Amongst the 12 winning projects are two by and one by and . The biennial awards celebrate outstanding design in recently completed projects by Canadian architects.

Saucier + Perrotte Architectes and HCMA won an award for the Complexe Sportif Saint-Laurent in Montreal and a second award for the Stade de Soccer de Montr茅al.聽 Gilles Saucier, one of the two principals at Saucier + Perrotte, teaches in the professional Master鈥檚 studio at the School and was Gerald Sheff Visiting Professor Of Architecture.

Atelier TAG and Jodoin Lamarre Pratte Architectes in consortium won an award for the Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.聽 聽Manon Asselin (B.Arch. 1992, M.Arch. 2001) is co-founder, with her partner Katsuhiro Yamazaki (B.Arch. 1996), of Atelier TAG.聽 (B.Arch. 1987) is a senior partner at Jodoin Lamarre Pratte.

The Governor General鈥檚 Medals in Architecture, created by the RAIC, contribute to the development of the discipline and practice of architecture and increase public awareness of architecture as a vital cultural force in Canadian society.聽 Medals are awarded for excellence in the art of architecture. The jury considers elements such as conceptual clarity, compatibility with the site, detailing, innovation and uniqueness, and sustainable design.聽 The 2018 competition continues a tradition initiated by the Massey Medals in 1950, providing an important source of understanding of the nature of Canadian architecture and the regional, cultural and historic forces expressed in the built environment.聽 The awards are administered jointly with the Canada Council for the Arts, which is responsible for the adjudication process and contributes to the publication highlighting the medal winners.聽 The awards will be presented during a ceremony in Ottawa in the fall.
